ROBBIE Fowler surprised manager Dave Jones and the Cardiff City staff in his first training session yesterday.
Fowler left the press conference to announce his arrival and met up with his new City club-mates for the first time at University of Glamorgan Playing Fields, Treforest.
He has plenty of work ahead to catch up with the rest of the players, who have been through a full pre-season.
But fitness coach Alex Armstrong, who is, like Fowler, from Liverpool, said: “Robbie is surprisingly fit for somebody who hasn’t been doing pre-season work.
“He’s in good shape.
“He did everything asked of him and more. Now we need to build on that.
“Robbie will work with me for the rest of the week and next week.
“He will be into double daily sessions for 10 days and we will gradually introduce him into ball work.”
Fowler will not be involved at Stockport County on Saturday and will make his debut against Dutch club FC Twente at Ninian Park on Saturday, August 4.
A week later Fowler will try to earn a place in City’s line-up for the opening Coca-Cola Championship clash with Stoke City at home on Saturday, August 11.
