FOWLER WATCH: A PICTURE SPECIAL

An offside flag might have denied Robbie Fowler the fairytale end to one of the greatest weeks in his life but the sight of the player the fans call 'God' back at Anfield was still a beautiful one.

7.30PM: Fans get their first sight of Fowler on the Anfield turf as he comes out to warm up and despite the ground only being a third full there is a rousing reception. Hallelujah plays over the public address and brings laughs all around.

7.49PM: Fowler completes his warm up and leaves the pitch to a round of applause.

7.54PM: The teams are announced and Number 11 Fowler brings a massive cheer.

8.27PM: It's one of the moments we've all been waiting for as Robbie comes off the bench and makes his way to the Kop end touchline to warm up. A standing ovation from the Kop follows.

8.50PM: Fowler emerges with the other substitutes for a half time warm up. The fans are entertained by his ball skills.

9.07PM: Robbie runs the line again waiting for his chance.

9.20PM: Fowler is called back to the bench and told to strip off, prompting wild celebrations. Gerrard scores the opener while Fowler get’s his tracksuit off.

9.22PM: God makes his return as he replaces Peter Crouch prompting the crowd to enter into a chorus of Robbie Fowler, Robbie Fowler.

9.23PM: Fowler hasn’t had a kick yet, but the fans continue to show their joy at his return with cries of ‘There’s only one Robbie Fowler’.

9.24PM: Fans all around begin to recall their bets on Fowler scoring the last goal and how it was now a real possibility.

9.26PM Robbie is caught offside as he runs through.

9.29PM Gerrard’s pass almost puts Fowler clear, but it’s just too long. Robbie is quickly back into the action though and his through pass creates a chance for Morientes.

9.33PM: Fowler is the fox in the box as moves menacingly and almost latches onto Finnan's cross.

9.40PM: Fowler earns another round of applause with a fine left footed pass for Riise.

9.53PM: We thought we had the fairytale ending we'd dreamed of when Fowler executes a brilliant overhead kick into the Kop net, but celebrations are cut agonisingly short as he is ruled offside.
