Watch How God Leapfrogged the KingFrom LiverpoolFC.tv, 26 October 2006Robbie Fowler has leapfrogged Kenny Dalglish to become the club's second highest goalscorer in the League Cup. The marksman was level with King Kenny until hitting his 28th in the competition against Reading on Wednesday night. Fowler has always relished playing in the League Cup, scoring five against Fulham at Anfield in 1993 and hitting a wonder-strike in the final against Birmingham City in 2001. The former England international now has 28 goals in 33 ties in the competition but has a long way to go to catch Ian Rush on 48. "When I scored last season to go past him in the overall list, Kenny was the first on the phone to me to say how gutted he was," joked Fowler.
"I didn't realise I'd gone past him again on another list, so I'll have upset him again. Seriously though, I know Kenny will be pleased for me and I'm sure he'll be phoning me or texting me to congratulate me again."
Liverpool's top League Cup goalscorers
¹Robbie also scored two goals in League Cup for Manchester City so his goal against Reading is not his 28th goal in League Cup. Robbie's 219th goal is his 30th goal in League Cup.
