Happy birthday, Robbie - the new number five!

From In the Red Corner, LFChistory.net, 9 April 2006

Robbie Fowlers goal vs West Brom on 1st of April 2006 was his 173rd for the club and made him fifth in the all-time list of Liverpool of goalscorers.

Fowler played down the achievement: Its fantastic for me but Kenny Dalglish is a proper Liverpool legend. To get anywhere near him is an achievement, so to go one past him makes me very happy. Fowler said Kenny would probably ring him as he has had the habit of doing throughout Fowler's career but King Kenny had other ideas.

"I wont be ringing him. Hes now scored more goals than me so Im not talking to him. In fact, I wish he hadnt come back, whos bright idea was that?"

Joking aside, Dalglish went on: "Nah, its a fantastic achievement for Robbie and Im delighted for him, hes a great lad. Once he returned it was inevitable he was going to overtake me and I have no problems with that. Its not like I was the top scorer of all-time. That title belongs to Rushie and hell take some beating."

We congratulate Robbie on his fantastic achievement and he can be proud of being number five.
